What is mobility and how do you improve it?
Mobility is about moving the body.
It refers to the range of motion you can safely achieve with your joints. These movements are limited by the surrounding tissues, such as tendons, muscles, and ligaments.
Optimal mobility means moving without restrictions, with maximum strength, coordination, and balance. The better your mobility, the further you can move your bones.
Stability
Stability is about maintaining the correct position (of certain body parts, depending on the type of movement) throughout a movement. This requires good cooperation between all parts of the body.
If you want to train stability, focus mainly on the technique of the movement rather than the amount of force you use.
When is training stability useful?
-
Back pain
-
Neck pain and headaches
-
Preventing injuries
Core stability
Core Stability, also known as Trunk Stiffness
The core consists of the back, abdominal, glute, and hip muscles. It is important to create the right stiffness in the core. When you can generate this stiffness, the risk of injuries decreases significantly.
Your performance will also improve, and your training environment becomes safer. With a strong core, your posture improves and physical complaints such as back or hip pain are likely to decrease considerably.
How do you improve mobility?
Foamroller
A foam roller helps reduce adhesions and improve blood circulation in the muscles.
This loosens up stiff muscles, which in turn increases your mobility. As a result, your athletic performance improves.
Add the foam roller to your warm-up. Roll the muscles you’re going to use during training, or if you have a stiff muscle, include it as well—even if you’re not going to train that muscle. By ensuring all your muscles are loosened up, you’ll be able to achieve better positions during your workout.
Are you experiencing muscle pain?
Then use a foam roller. It helps your muscles absorb more oxygen because it improves blood flow. Don’t expect the muscle pain to immediately subside just by rolling.
Stretchen
Stretching makes a muscle longer.
This increases joint mobility. With greater joint mobility, your strength also improves!
